Fall Fun

If you are wondering why your child came home today with orange hands, there is a good reason for that. We finger painted pumpkins. I don't do finger painting very often because it scares me. Imagine 21 Kindergarteners with paint all over their hands and you will probably shudder at the thought like I do. I gave them some red and yellow paint on a white piece of paper and told them to mix it all up and spread it all around. I love to see their reactions when the red and yellow turn to orange. They think it is so cool.

They did a great job of keeping the mess to a minimum and now we have a cute pumpkin patch in our room. They also made the corn with tissue paper.

Don't forget Monday is our career day parade. Please help your child to dress up as what he/she wants to be when they grow up. We will also have our Fall Party that afternoon.

Feed the Monster

Our classroom was a little scary today. It was full of hungry monsters!

We figured out that the only thing they like to eat is sight words. Everyone made a set of sight word cards and when the monsters got hungry, we fed them.

They are all bringing a monster home today, so be sure to feed them regularly. You don't want a hungry monster in your house!

Pumpkin Patch in Elgin

"Wednesday was the best day ever!" That's what I kept hearing from the kids about our day at the Pumpkin Patch. The day started with a lesson about how pumpkins grow and then we went on a hay ride through the Christmas tree farm and saw the trees in all different stages of growth. After a picnic lunch, the kids went through a corn maze. I think they could have spent the rest of the day there. Some kids went through several times and were reluctant to leave, but I kept telling them we had so much more to do.

The next stop was to decorate a pumpkin.

They got to see and pet some farm animals and then went through another maze.

We ended the day with duck races. The kids had to pump water through the chutes which would push the ducks. It took a lot of muscle power.

The kids were great and everyone had a fun time.

Pics From the Week

We've had a very busy week. The Pumpkin Patch was great. The kids are still talking about how much fun it was. We are really looking forward to next week's trip. The kids wrote about the Pumpkin Patch and then they read their work to each other.

We finally finished our "Brown Bear" books. They did a great job and I encourage you to hold on to these. They are wonderful keepsakes. Have your child read it to you and talk about the art work.

We learned the letter "N" this week and made nests.

Next week will be the letter "M". We will also start a new unit in reading. More sight words will be added. Be sure to check the sight word page for new words.

Pumpkin Patch

The Pumpkin Patch was so much fun! The ladies at Fletcher's were so good with our students and provided us with an entertaining program and a snack.

This is the Pumpkin Fairy. She told the kids a story and then taught the rhyme "Five Little Pumpkins". Some of the kids got to help act out the rhyme.

They had cookies and juice for a snack.

Everyone got to pick out their own pumpkin before we left.

The kids couldn't stop talking about how much fun they had. This was our first trip away from the school and I was very proud of my class. Next week, we will go to the Pumpkin Patch in Elgin. They will have a whole day of activities for us. I'm looking forward to it.

ABC Disco

We have a few songs that we sing everyday to help us learn. We have a song about the days of the week, the months of the year and counting to 100. One of my favorites is ABC Disco. They really get into it and I love to watch them. I thought you would enjoy it, too. I hope this works. I've never psoted a video before.
