Thanksgiving Feast

Getting ready for Thanksgiving has been so much fun!  We learned about the first Thanksgiving.  The students made a book that they can share with your family.
We made these lovely turkeys that will be a wonderful addition to your Thanksgiving decor if your child doesn't eat it first.
We made turkey hats and wore them to the Feast.
The moms and dads did such a great job of decorating and providing the meal for us today.  Thank you for making this a special occasion.

The food was delicious.  The kids kept going back for more.
I wish you all a safe and happy holiday.  See you on Monday.

Thanksgiving and Other Stuff

Since Thanksgiving is next week, we have been very busy getting ready.  Week before last, our letter was I and the kids made these super cute Indians.
Last week the letter was S and I couldn't pass up making these adorable Santas so my room looks like I'm confused about the holidays.

Right next to the Santas I had these half finished turkeys hanging to dry.
Now the turkeys are finished and ready for our Thanksgiving Feast.  I sent home some information about that in  your child's red folder today.
We also made these place mats to use at the Feast.  I hope you can come and celebrate with us.

Busy Ducklings

The kids worked hard today.  We spent a lot of time this morning practicing sounding out and spelling words.  They are all pretty good at this when we are doing one word at a time.  So I challenged them with writing sentences.  They learned that a sentence must have a capital letter at the beginning, spaces between the words and a period at the end.  Putting spaces between words was the biggest challenge so in the next few days we are going to work on sentence writing a lot.
In Math, we also started something new.  Today's lesson was on sorting.  We learned that when you sort, you are putting things together that are alike.  Everyone was given a tray like the one above with a variety of objects and they were asked to find things that were alike.
The child who did this tray found some beads that were oval shaped and put those together.  Then he put animals together, and finally, gold objects were put together.

We will do this again tomorrow and see what other things they can find that have similarities.

November 21 is a half day of school and it is also our last day before Thanksgiving.  The Kindergarten will be having a Thanksgiving Feast on that day and all parents are invited to attend.  You will receive more information soon about what our class will provide for the feast.  If at all possible, please plan to attend.  The kids love having family members eat with them.
