Skating Field Trip

Put over 100 Kindergarteners on roller skates, play the Hokey Pokey, and watch the fun begin. We had a great time today at the roller skating rink. Some of the kids were a little nervous about putting wheels on their feet, but I noticed that the ones that were the most unsure of themselves were the ones who stuck with it and learned how to skate.

They helped each other.
Some were naturals right from the beginning.

At the end of our time, everyone was tired and hungry. Thanks to all the parents who put skates on kids and tied shoelaces. We couldn't have done it without you.

Eric S.'s Day and the Valentine Party

Eric S. had a fun day with the camera. I love how they are really getting into taking pictures and talking about their day. When my kids were 5 and 6, I wouldn't let them near a camera much less turn them loose with one for the day. I guess I'm mellowing out as I get older. Here's what Eric had to say:
Caleb likes to make funny faces.
Luke is cool!
Olivia looks happy.
Center time is the best time of the day. Madison is looking at Cooper's tower.
When it is time for reading stations, this board shows us what to do.We made heart maps. Only things that are very special to you can go on your heart map.
We made Valentine decorations.
This is my cookie after I decorated it. It was yummy!
Here I am looking at my Valentines.
Our class had fun at the party.

Eric J.'s Day

Eric was the photographer yesterday. He took lots of close ups.

We made stick puppets for the rhyme "Baa Baa Black Sheep".

Our letter this week was Y. We decorated a capital Y and glued pictures on it of things that start with Y.Today we decorated shoe boxes for our Valentine's Party. The shoeboxes will be our mailboxes at the party.

The class really got into the decorating. After they left, it looked like a Valentine volcano had erupted in the room.

Emma's Day

Emma's day was extra special because it was Madison's birthday. We have a brand new 6 year old in our class. Happy birthday, Madison.
We practice our sight words every day.
Sawyer is being silly.Daniel drew a picture and wrote a story.
Our letter this week is Y. We are learning a lot of words that start with Y.
Thomas is using the glue.
This is our hall. The first graders made pictures of what they will look like when they are 100 years old.
We are studying shadows. We learned about Groundhog Day and we went outside to see our own shadows.
Thanks for sharing your day, Emma.
Parents, please remember to send a shoebox that we can decorate for the Valentine Party. I have a few extra, but right now I'm short 11 boxes. I don't have that many. Maybe I should go shoe shopping?

Daniel's Day

We started our day with the 1st Thursday Assembly. Every month, kids from each class get chosen as the citizen of the month. Will and Eric were picked for this month. The character trait this month is honor.
After lunch the leader for the day gets to pick 3 songs to sing.
This week we learned about the letter E. It is a vowel. Vowels are special because they have 2 sounds and every word has to have a vowel in it.We decorated the letter E and talked about things that start with E.
In Mrs. Brown's class, we are learning about the sun, moon, stars and constellations.
Mrs. Kyle is not hitting herself in the head. She is teaching us how to put a number in our head and count up from that number.
Recess is always fun.
Today was Matthew's birthday. His mom brought cupcakes with Star Wars masks and light sabers on them. Our mouths turned green and blue.

Cooper's Day

Cooper's day was very unusual. The morning was uneventful and we had our regular morning lessons. When we got back from lunch, I was reading the class a story and we started hearing screaming coming from down the hallway. I also heard another strange sound like water spewing. I went to look and there was water pouring out of Mrs. Price's room. A pipe had sprung a leak under her sink. The kids were screaming and she was trying to stop the flow. I got her kids and brought them back to my class. They calmed down and I finished the story I had been reading. As I was reading, I was thinking to myself, "What am I going to do with 40 kids now?" I gave them some paper and crayons and told them to draw their favorite part of the story to buy myself a little time. In the meantime the water started flowing under the wall between Mrs. Price's room and Mrs. Brown's room so that room was being flooded also. Well, that was pretty much the end of the instructional day for us. We found a movie for the kids to watch and then we had a long recess. So I say all that just to let you know that Cooper didn't have a lot of picture taking opportunities. Here's what he did get and I thought it was funny that every time he pointed a camera at someone, they made a goofy face. They haven't done that for anyone else.Matthew is being silly.
Kase is saying, "Peace, out".
We drew pictures from the story.
We watched a movie when Mrs. Price's class had a water leak.
I send you good luck.
